Ushuaia is known as the The End of the World. It is the southernmost city in the world, next stop Antarctica. Ushuaia is the capital of Tierra del Fuego. Ferninand Magellan first documented it in 1520 and later (1831) visited by Charles Darwin in the Beagle, for which the Straits between Argentina and Chile are named.

It is picture postcard a bit like the images we are seeing of Greenland at the moment.

It is cold for the height of summer (13c) LOL.

We were up early to connect with our tour, a catamaran visit to penguin rookeries on islands in the Beagle Channel. This was a real highlight. Firstly a Cormant rookery then the beautiful Gentoo and magellanic penguins. They were so gorgeous waddling around confirming "yes they are the ever -present touristic species visiting again."

It was such a glorious day if you were rugged up.

The Captain laid bare my plans for visiting the post office at the end of the world, when he announced that we were to leave early due to impending something. We left Ushuaia via the Beagle Channel heading north.

We joined our friends Garry and Barbara for a private Glacier Alley, Chile, viewing from their penthouse, complete with wine and hors douvres and chilly drafts.

There are 5 glaciers named for European countries, flowing from the Darwin Ice fields. These glowing blue glaciers were presented to us in the evening light one by one. It was an unforgettable experience.
