We are docked at this massive industrial port overnight. We did a tour today "Highlights of Buenos Aires". Buenos Aires is the capital of Argentina.

It has a fascinating history of conflict and rebellion and had an influx of millions of immigrants 19th to 20th centuries. Its culture is an amalgum of all these influences and is sometimes referred to as the Paris of South America. It has a population of approx 3m and another 10m people come in by public transport each day to work.

We toured Buenos Aires extensive parklands, which certainly allow such a lot of green in the city. It features massive figs one of which had a sculpture of Atlas supporting an enormous branch.

We visited an incredible La Recoleta Cemetery from 1822. It contains the graves of notable people, including Eva PerĂ³n, presidents of Argentina, Nobel Prize winners, the founder of the Argentine Navy, and military commanders such as Julio Argentino Roca. They are a series of weirdly competitive Italianate stone monuments, in "streets".

The Plaza de Mayo has the scene of many of the Peron speeches, before they were deposed. The Plaza also is the scene of many gatherings of unrest.

We then visited La Boca a colouful arty district.

Interestingly on the way back to port we went under the expressway where homeless immigrants have built illegal but substantial homes for themselves.

We are having dinner with our special 197 day round the world friends tonight at Jacques.
