This morning we had room service brekkie so we could watch Carlos Alcaraz sort out Djokovic in 2026 men's singles Australian Open.

Montevideo is yet another beautiful sea side port. It is Spanish speaking and is the main port for export city for Uruguay. The harbour has many visible shipwrecks, inclusive of German battleship Graf Spee, scuttled in 1939 near the River Plate, and the Highland Chieftain and Agamamnon where a canon from Nelsons former flagship was recovered. This access to the South American continent has been hotly contested over the centurys. First occupied by Portuguese in 1512 and then the Spanish in 1516. The early 19th-century history of Uruguay was shaped by struggles for dominance in the Plate river region between British , Spanish, and Portuguese colonial forces. Between 1806 and 1807, the British army attempted to take Buenos Aires and Montevideo as part of the Napoleonic Wars . Montevideo was occupied by a British force from February to September 1807. The Uruguans finally gained independence in 1813.

We were docked so could walk off the boat no probs no battles. Being Sunday, and everyone is at church here, there were limited openings. We will be back on Wednesday so we did a little tourist shopping at the port.

We dined with Maria and Rich from Buffalo, New York state at Toscana. We had interesting conversations, probably buyers' remorse with the current president.
