We anchored off and idyllic island off Rio. Its history was not so idyllic when it served firstly as a leper colony then as a high security prison for the Brazilian government for over a century. It was finally closed as a penitentury in 1994. Since then the sleepy fishing village has developed into popular destination for holiday makers from Rio and cruise ships apparently. Groovy young things apparently take a ferry from Rio judging from the age group we saw. It reminded me of the early days in Bali.

It comprises long sandy beaches, some quaint shops and cobbled roads, no cars.

We tendered across for a walk around.

Being Australia Day I asked Vista crew to set up an Australia Day get together in Horizons Lounge. It was surprising how many folk were aboard, including Fran's friends , Russ and Kay from Camperdown Street, Coffs Harbour. Ingrid should be proud that I was wearing my Rotary Kangaroo badge.

We then enjoyed listening to the new string quartet from Ukraine and then dinner with a lovely Candian couple, Jim and Sheila. Then ZZZZZZZZZZ, big day Frankie.
