Belem is the capital of Para Brazil. It is the gateway to the Amazon and is a city of approx 2m people. The actual delta is rather silted up so we were docked about 1 hour out of the city. We bused into see the local landmarks: Theatre, museum, Cathedral, port. It was interesting to see the painted bowl in the museum that employed very similar style to indiginous Australian artwork. Unique feature was the local parkland which utilises massive mango trees for shade. I'm sure the bats love that. The powerline spaghetti and the dock photos might explains a lot about the poor conditions of Belem.
