We are in the land of never ending sunlight. It was a cloudy day at Akureyri, a quaint and colourful village on the edge of the Eyafjordu Fijord. It has a population of only approx 20k with fishing and tourism the main economic mainstays and acted as a WWII airbase.
It was first settled by Norse Vikings in the 9th C.
We boarded a hop on a hopoff bus and did sighting trip around the town. Then we took a local tour to visit the Godafoss waterfalls and Botanic Gardens. The waterfalls were quite spectaular, but the thing that caught my eye was the the natural scupture created by the shearing away of the basalt. It could have easily been an art installation. The hinterland was covered with Lupins which were very picturesque. I collected a grand bunch of Lupins and gave them to Carolyn and Paul in thanks for all their work with Sing out Loud.
Al and I had a solo dinner at Red Ginger which was probably our last there, so we indulged ourselves with our favourite share entree platter and sea bass.
