We organised a private tour with a lovely guide, Heather from the Charles Rennie Mackintosh (CRM) Foundation in Glasgow. We missed CRM last time we were in Glasgow.
This involved catching a train from Greenock where the Vista was docked, into Glasgow, where we met Heather and started the 1700 steps adventure (OMG).
Alan's photos show the work of CRM, architect and designer, he undertook in collaboration with his wife, Margaret who was a graphic designer.
CRM and team were part of the fusion of the arts and crafts movement and the Art Nouveau revolution. They also infused the Japanese artistic sensibilities which led in turn to Art Deco and Modernism. A true forerunner.
In addition we were treated to an organ recital at the Kelvin Grove Gallery, a massive space and experience.
The walking tour was a genuine treat, inclusive of a genuine Scottish drenching and genuine freakout when the taxi did not come to take us to the return train.
We did get back just in time to attend Colin Rose's birthday party at GDR (I bought him some CRM's Scottish rose sox).
