This volcanic island was uninhabited until being discovered by 15thC Portuguese explorers. It now is an empoverished, if independent (1973) Democratic Republic community with Brazilian and Portuguese influences. It was a centre for the slave trade.

We tendered off the Vista and shuttle bus to an unremarkable and frankly uncomfortable experience, where we basically returned back to the ship.

The dance troupe were telling the a love story, murder and insurrection. It apparently was the only tradtional dance the people could dance before independence.
